The Sky isn't falling...
I promise xx
After having to drop everything Cupcakes related about 6 weeks ago due to personal/family reasons, I am finally home with my husband and children!! Of course they have visited when they could, but it's not the same. I am happy to be home and ready to tackle the rest of the year.
I would like to thank Jen, my assistant in chief, for taking on all enquiries and letting people know they will be answered as soon as possible. Without her help, I would have lost a lot of business and many emails would have been unanswered. Thank you so much Jen xx
Also, new and past clients have been very understanding of my circumstances and I just want to say thank you for being so wonderful. I will get to you all as soon as I can and really appreciate your past and future patience xx
*****************************************
Taking this time away from the business and home has made me realise that I am only human and I really do need to sometimes take a step back, and breathe. Cupcakes has really grown in the past year and while I adore the work, people and experiences, I am only ONE person. I cannot delegate anything to anyone really and so it all falls on me. This is fine and dandy, but I do need to space out sessions, and make sure I have time off to be with my family. Working from home makes it very hard to separate work and home life, I need to start being strict!!
So, there will be a few changes made in the coming week or two to ensure not only my sanity, but my family's too. Family is EVERYTHING to me, and they must come first above everything else. I am glad that I make clients feel like they are my only client in the world and that I am here soley for them, but it is actually not the case (sorry!). I always have a thousand things going on - shoots/cooking/ordering prints/washing/school things/daycare things/editing images/dog walking...arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!! Life is busy, and that's fine. I haven't been 'busy' for 6 weeks, it has made me take a step back and see where changes need to be made for Cupcakes.
I look forward to the rest of the year, and thank everyone for their understanding. The sky didn't fall in my absence afterall...

A Day in Orange - Part Two
Third and final session in Orange (I will post the first one once I get permission).
Talk about ending with a BANG! Ewan and Eloise could not have more completely different personalities if they tried. Ewan is so very quiet and shy, and really really intelligent. His reading level is amazing, and he loves cricket and soccer. Oh and his favourite food is chicken chips. He was a very tough nut to crack. He made me work for it, but when he did open up I got to see the real him which was really special for me actually.
I am happy when kids are able to do that with me, even if we have to warm up a lot first. I mean, these kids don't know me. And here I come all loud and curly haired, asking them questions, telling them what to do/where to sit and then pointing my big black camera in their faces and expect them to relax? Nup, doesnt work like that. Sometimes on the rare occasion it does, other times it really does take time.
And then it doesn't. Eloise... well! What a dynamite! She couldn't wait for it to be her turn on her own, and did she ever ham it up for me. No problems cracking her, she followed all direction really well and I had to calm her down a few times, little monkey!! It is good to be able to also relax into myself and get creative with these little gems who are willing to just go for anything and try anything and throw suggestions at me.
The thing is, from one extreme to the next, it really doesn't bother me. Kids speak the truth, their own truth. You cannot expect them to be themselves with a stranger instantly. It's great for me if it happens, but if it doesn't right away - I know it will, even if it takes 3 hours. I have worked with children in the past, and I work with them now. Plus, I own three of them so I do have a fair idea about what works with kids and what they see straight through. I AM genuinely interested in what sports they like or what food is their favourite, and they can see that I actually DO want to know! It's all for the greater good...
Enough rambling, here's the cute kids...

A Day in Orange - Part One
Last week I spent a day in the stunning Cook Park in Orange City. WOW. It was just beautiful, all the colours of Autumn provided a magical backdrop for all my sweet kids.
Second for the day were Jack and Maggie. I really took my time with this session, and to be honest I had to trick Jack into eye contact quite a lot. He was VERY good, and I got some amazing shots. Same with Maggie - although all I had to mention was Ariel the mermaid and she was instantly happy. Very cute! The colour of their lips is amazing, so ruby red.
All their Mum wanted was one decent photo of them together, and I got it. Woot! I got a few actually, but will save them for Mum's surprise!

CUTE FAM
Such a great session, the kids were wonderful to work with and not only did they relax enough with me for their photos, they were relaxed enough to give me a massage during those 'lie on yer belly' shots. And they were pretty good too, with boney little elbows and chopper hands digging right in to my poor back...
Relaxed. I was so tired this time of the afternoon but the whole shoot was just like going around to someones place for a coffee, just bringing my camera along. It was really really great to just hang out.
Thanks for a great afternoon guys!

Bec+Dave
Having spoken with Bec on the phone quite a bit in the lead up to her wedding day, I knew we would click in person aswell. I wasn't wrong. She and her bridesmaids were fab!
Through twists and bends these guys have managed to come through strong to create a stable, happy family for their three kids. They are confident, happy kids, what more could you ask for? Hugh, the beautiful brown-eyed boy, is like the icing on the cake for this family, bringing them all that one bit closer together, binding them all like glue. He is seriously CUTE.
As far as the day went, it pretty much was without a hitch. I had my first ever 'photograph-zilla' moments with the setting of the sun far too soon for me! I needed to work ultra fast and for those that know me know I need my time! I act like I will turn into a pumpkin if the sun sets too quickly, so I was stressed. However I did manage to capture some truly beautiful images, and to really capture 'them' in a short amount of time.
Gorgeous reception followed, with lots of food and dancing. Fatty and Mark ripped it up on the dancefloor, teaching the little girls how to do the sprinkler and the shovel. They loved it!
Bec and Dave, thank you! It was a beautiful day xx

Ruby May - 8 days
Isn't she just divine?? She is such a good girl too, feeding and sleeping and pooping and that's about it! Very sleepy girl once she was milk-drunk...
Charlie is a big brother at last, and he is just beautiful with her. He LOVES her. And has slipped into his role with perfection, being a very good helper for Mum.
So gorge...

Carmen and Luke
What an AMAZING day everyone had yesterday.
Firstly, it was raining. Never having had a rainy wedding to photograph, I admit I was a smidge nervous. The gorgeous Bride, Carmen, didn't have a worry in the world. Nor did she have a back-up in case of wet weather! Heavens to mergatroid, talk about giving the photog a heart attack.
Getting ready at her parents place was great, their beautiful home provided a wonderful back drop with amazing pieces I could work with to create some really personal images. Carmens flowers were nothing short of breath-taking ( Provided by Natasha's Floral Design 0448892233, they were seriously gorgeous!) . Purple traditional lillies.. have never seen any in real life before. Just a beautiful, unique touch to the day...
All was fine, and we just worked around the rain and went to a plan B or C. After a beautiful ceremony, we headed for the photos and it was lovely not to rush and just have some fun with Luke, Carmen and their bridal party. Oh, and the drivers!
The reception... was an absolute HOOT, although so lovely and casual with a couch, marshmallow corner and loads of glorious finger foods and cocktails. Carmens family are the best bunch of dancers I have ever seen! Auntie Barb below is displaying just one of her moves that rocked the joint. If they had a break for a drink, and then heard a song they liked, MANY Aunts would BOLT to the dance floor and go for it like nobody was watching. Everyone was just having the best time, it was hard not to feel the joy!
Carmen and Luke, thank you for allowing me to photograph this beautiful occasion. I had a wonderful time and it really is an honour for me to be chosen for this very important job!
PS - Special shout out to Nigel Constable who was most unimpressed that he had not featured on my blog, which he apparently visits every day? See the photo-booth collage of the gorgeous pose he did JUST to get on here!!
